Chinese F16? Yes, you read it right!


Back in the 1980s when the US and China enjoyed a good relationship with each other, the then US govt offered PLAAF around 200-400 F-16 fighters with a possible license to produce them.
Along with the F-16, the Northrop Grumman was in the competition with its F-20 Tigershark while Dassault Aviation was in the competition with its Mirage-2000 fighter.
The proposal was available for quite a few years however, the US and European firms put arms embargo after the Tiananmen Square Massacre and all the American and European proposals were canceled.
Ironically the French later offered the Rafale to PLAAF in the mid-90s or early 2000s however that proposal was shelved due to the political pressure from the US
